Divshare limit ! C90 resetter trial in new place

HP NYSE HPQ RIM announce alliance includes CloudPrint for BlackBerry

In a press announcement released this morning, May 4 2009, HP and RIM have disclosed strategic alliance to "mobilize business on BlackBerry" smartphones.

In addition to the enterprise/IT elements of the alliance (HP Operations Manager for BlackBerry Enterprise Server, EDS Mobile Workplace Services), and the HP spokesperson one would expect in such a release, Ann Livermore, executive vice president for HPs Technology Solutions Group, theres a printing related element thats notable for several reasons.

A component of the alliance, in fact the lead item, is the inclusion of HPs CloudPrint solution for RIMs ubiquitous BlackBerry. In the words of the alliance announcement, the HP Labs-developed CloudPrint offers "a web services based solution that allows users to print emails, documents, photos and web pages using a BlackBerry smartphone, wherever they are – in the office, at home or on the road." Readers of this blog may recognize CloudPrint from previous posts, from August 2007 (see "Printing from the Cloud") and April 2008 (see "iPhone Printing Revisited").

Whether or not "Cloud Printing" becomes a meaningful benefit for at a least a significant subset of BlackBerry users remains to be seen, but kudos to HP on at least two fronts. First, I give credit to HP for keeping the CloudPrint momentum going for almost two years since its public revelation (and who knows how much longer it was rattling around HP Labs before that). Looking for a better cloud receipt printer

The problem of remote printing

I have been looking for a solution to print out receipt-like stuff remotely, be it online food order or e-commerce shipping request.  As a geek person, I also wish it to be cheap enough to use.  So far I have not had great success in finding such a product/service.

A few promising candidates are:

Little Printer from BERG
Problem:

• Expensive. I mean, very expensive. 
• Not durable.  The construction fits for a hobby project, but not shop floor.

This little printer fits the bill except for its price tag.  I dont know about you guys; a little printer retails for $219 plus $40 shipping is insane to me.

 
SMS/GPRS Printer
Problem:

• Need to roll(develop) my own server infrastructure.
• Requires mobile data plan. (Expensive in Canada)

This $99 device is almost right for my purpose.  Only it is offered by some Chinese suppliers that I do not have a lot of faith in their software quality.

E-print, Cloud Print, Epson, HP, Canon
Problem:

• Large size. (Dont like a full size laser-jet on the desk.)
• Printing delivery by email, no API/Service for delivery status.
• Maintenance issue. (ink, toner, paper jam)

Google Clould Print
Problem:

• Can only use under someones gmail account.  Not ideal for large number of deployment.
• Requires computer(or Raspberry Pi).

Seriously, how difficult it is to make a receipt printer that fits my use case without breaking the bank?

• Connects on Lan/Wifi (Free if I already have internet)
• Easy to use API to print things.
• Provide server infrastructure at very low recurring charge. (Just like Twilio)
• And the printer sells for under $100

Direct Marketing aka junk mail good for printers if it lasts

Christopher Hinton has a piece on Marketwatch (see "Junk mail spurs growth for top printer makers") that highlights positive developments in the Direct Marketing field that mean good news for printer companies like Xerox (NYSE XRX), Kodak (NYSE EK), HP (NYSE HPQ), and Ocè (NL:35493). The surge in direct mail advertising (annual rate of 6% in the US) is spurred by growing capabilities in personalization (and its resultant increase in advertising response rates), as well as the declining effectiveness (e.g. TV advertising) or legal restrictions (e.g. telemarketing) of alternative ad media forms.

Not all bodes well for the future of junk mail, however. An example of forces aligned against direct marketing mailings comes from right here in my home state. Last month, The University of Idaho announced that in a move to save cost, energy, and landfill space, their faculty, staff and students wont receive bulk mail through the university system, as of January 1, 2008 (see "University of Idaho vows to quit delivering junk mail"). Instead, the material will be bulk recycled!

SSC Service Utility for Epson Stylus Printers

I hope this helps some of you who are frustrated and ready to throw out your Epson printer
Problems with my Epson printer, the red and green light began flashing and a window popped up, saying, take it to your services center because some parts have reached the end of their life.
Printer companies set a “protection counter” on all printers , it’s an internal counter measuring the amount of ink wasted by head cleaning.

Reset the "protection counter" as well as clean the “waste ink pad overflow”.

1. Unplug the power and USB cables from the printer. Pry open the printer,
careful not to break anything. Use a flat blade screwdriver to pry it apart;
there are two-three tabs at the back and two at the front. Gently push them in,
and then using a bit of force pry apart the cover.
2. Next remove the two (2) waste ink pads.
They are located at the back on the left hand side. I used the flat blade
screwdriver to lift up the ink pads (they were soaked).
Please use rubber gloves as it gets very messy.
3. Next wash them with just plain hot water until they are white again.
I just let the hot water run on them (the pads are about three inches long).

4. Once washed dry them using a hair drier. (you could place it the sun for
a few hours or on top of your heater or maybe in a heated oven; (make sure you do
not set it on fire with too much heat).
5. Once dried place the pads back in the ink waste bin at the back of the printer.
6. Closed the printer cover and put back all the pieces and plug in the USB
& power cable and turned it on. (Yes the lights are still flashing).
7. Go to this link and download this software.want to download software (v4.30)
8. Install the software and run it.
9. Select your printer and model number. It will ask if you replaced with new pads;
say “YES”. Then close the window.
10. Now right click on the SSC service utility, it looks like
a printer icon near your clock in the task bar.
11. Then click on reset counters. You can do all other stuff with this utility too.
12. Turn off the printer power and then turn it on again.
If necessary un-plug the power cord from the back of the printer,
wait 20 seconds. Plug it back in.
13. IT WORKS AGAIN.

1. Operating Environment:
l Windows95 OSR2.0 or higher and Windows98.
l (for Windows95)
LPT1-LPT3 are used.
(for Windows98)

2. How to use the Adjustment Program:
Copy the Adjustment Program on the desktop, and then , execute the program.
3. Cautions:
1) When you confirm the function of USB port properly, you must use Windows98
pre-installed PC. It cannot function properly on Windows95.
2) When you operate this program on the Windows95 or Windows98, you cannot
operate it with Status Monitor is running. Close Status Monitor on Task tray
before start the Adjustment Program.
3) Do not change the setting for “Font size” in “settings tab” of the
“Display Property”window.
4) Please do not start the Adjustment Program before connecting the printer with
a parallel I/F cable or USB I/F cable.
If you do not follow the instruction, the program will freeze.
5) Please do not send any commands during Check Pattern printing.
6) In case of turning off the printer, or the parallel I/F cable or USB I/F
cable is removed during booting the Adjustment Program, please restart the Adjustment Program.

Below is a procedure that in most cases should resolve a Canon i70 waste tank issue

1) Close the print head cover, and turn off the printer. While pressing the Resume/Cancel button, press the Power button.

(Do not release the buttons. The LED lights in green to indicate that a function is selectable.)

2) While holding the Power button, release the Resume/Cancel button.

(Do not release the Power button.)

3) While holding the Power button, press the Resume/Cancel button 3 times, and then release the Power and Resume/Cancel buttons.

(Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the LED lights alternately in either orange or green, starting with orange.)

During initialization, the LED blinks in green.

4) When the LED stops blinking and lights in green, press the Resume/Cancel button 4 times (Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the LED lights alternately in either orange or green, starting with orange.)

After the function (menu) is selected, press the Power button. The LED lights in green, and the selected function is performed. (When the operation completes, the printer returns to the menu selection mode automatically.)

*** 4 times Green Waste ink counter resetting Both the main and borderless print waste ink counters are cleared.

Fix for Special Force Online Hang up Problem

Fix for Slow Boot up after installation of Dotnet Framework 4

Early this morning after I install dotNet Framework 4. My PC Start to boot very slow. So I search the internet for solution and luckily i found it.

Slowdown will happen if you have the following:

- Windows XP SP3
- installed .NET Framework 4

Here is what I found to fix the problem:

Solution A

1) Run cmd.exe from Start > Run
2) Type cd
3) Type cd C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv4.0.30319
4) Type NGEN executequeueditems and press Enter
5) It will take about 10minutes depending upon system speed. After the process is complete, the following prompt will appear in the command prompt C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv4.0.30319
6) Type exit to close the command prompt.

After performing these steps, your computer will boot up at usual speed.

Solution B 

Microsoft hasnt provided an official fix yet, but here is the fix that solves this slow system startup.
DOWNLOAD FIX TOOL

Just download the fix tool, unpack it and run. It will probably take few minutes to process.

Secret Administrator Account For Vista

Deep inside the bowels of Windows Vista, there’s a secret Administrator account, and it’s different from the normal administrator account you most likely have set up on your PC. This Administrator account is not part of the Administrator group. It’s a kind of superadministrator, makin to the root account in Unix, and by default it’s turned off and hidden.

Turning on the Secret Administrator account is straightforward.
1. Open an elevated command prompt by typing cmd into the Search box on the Start menu
2. Then enter this command and press Enter:

Net user administrator /active:yes

From now on, the Administrator account will appear as an option on the Welcome screen, along with any user accounts you may have set up. Use it like any other account. Be aware that it won’t have a password yet, so it’s a good idea to set a password for it.

If you want to disable the account and hide it, enter this command at an elevated command prompt and press Enter:

Net user administrator /active:no

How to Remove Bios Password for Acer Laptops

If you key in the wrong Supervisor password three times, an error code is generated and system is disabled like in the image below.

To unlock the BIOS, perform the following steps:
   1. On a different machine, run the BIOS_PW.EXE file along with the error code generated. For example:

        bios_pw 14452 0

   2. Four ASCII strings are generated as output. Select and note down any one of the strings.

   3. Reboot the machine with the locked BIOS and then use either any of the strings as the BIOS user
       password.
